Special Interest Groups: New-to-Libraries Interest Group

What is the New to Libraries Interest Group?

The NLN group open to anyone new to libraries – LIS students, library staff, information professionals, and librarians from any kind of library. The network meets a number of times throughout the year to provide networking and professional development opportunities for those new to libraries.

The network is hosted by SWON and uses the online platform SWON provides, but the group is otherwise independent of SWON. This network and the other New to Libraries regional groups throughout Ohio meet annually at regional library conferences.

How can I get involved?

The New Librarians Interest Group is a great way to gain leadership and professional development experience! The group is looking for officers who will take the lead in planning events, meeting up for conferences, and having a social media presence (see the Leadership button in the menu above). If you’re looking to take advantage of the New Librarians Interest Group events without taking a leadership role, that’s fine too! .

What if I have questions?

Feel free to explore the tabs in the menu above, or direct more specific questions to the conveners (listed above on the right).
