Special Interest Group Meetings:

The Special Interest Groups that are meeting are the Academic Special Interest Group and the Schools Special Interest Group. If you aren't a member of one of those special interest group you don't have to show up until Noon.

The Academic Librarians Interest Group is an informal discussion group that meets four times a year at various places in the service area to discuss the challenges, ideas, and strategies of academic libraries. This includes but is not limited  to instruction, information literacy, marketing, technology, trends, and more. This group is open to all interested parties, and our meetings are free. Join us and share your tips for a successful university life!

The School Librarians Special Interest Group is comprised of High School Librarians who are Supporting members of SWON Libraries. They meet periodically to discuss a wide range of issues such as library trends, emerging technologies, group purchasing, group discounts, staffing, best practices, school library patrons, YA literature and collaboration with other types of libraries.

Lunch & Learn:

Design Thinking for Libraries aims to help libraries solve problems more creatively, take patron needs into account and so forth. I had not heard of it, but one of our committee members had and felt that an in person program would be helpful. Once a year we put on a program that expands the view of library staff in our region. We want to bring ideas, conversations, ways of thinking, that folks may not have otherwise had access to or perhaps not in-person access. If you scroll down the webpage above, you'll see why design thinking was useful for our particular issues. There simply aren't easy answers anymore for libraries of any type.

Cindy Tripp:

Cindy Tripp is an independent consultant helping business integrate the empathy and imagination of design with the practicalities of business in a way that can help deliver results now and in the future. Her in-depth understanding of Insights, Branding, Communication and Design Thinking integrates into her unique and strategic approach to innovation and brand building.  Cindy spent 24 years at Procter & Gamble in Marketing and Design and has been an adjunct professor at University of Cincinnati Lindner School of Business for 4 years where she teaches Design Thinking for Business.

Ms. Tripp was named Media Maven by Advertising Age in 2005 and was inducted into the Brand Leadership Hall of Fame at Indiana Universitys Kelley School of Business in Bloomington, Indiana in 2007. In 2011, she received an Impact Award by the Advertising Women of New York for her lifetime achievement in mentoring.

Membership Meeting:

Membership Meetings take place twice a year and they are meetings to vote on things relevant to SWON Memberships. Each supporting member library has one vote for the meeting. Some things that will be voted on at this meeting are: the budget for the year, and dues structure.

We will be giving away sun shades, glasses, mugs, and photo frames!

Boxed Lunches will be provided! When you register you will have options for special dietary requests.

Employees of Supporting Member Libraries: $25

Geographic Members: $35

Out-Of-State Members: $60

If you are only attending the Membership Meeting portion of the event then the event is free. If you plan on attending only the Membership Meeting please send an email to so I can make sure we don't charge you for the day.
