There’s no denying it. Street Lit is popular. Some people read it because they feel it relates to their own life and struggles. Others because the gritty, sexual, violent world holds a dark fascination and these books offer a safe way to experience it. Does your library carry street lit (urban fiction) in its collection? Are you interested in starting or expanding your current offerings? Or do you just want to learn more about this controversial genre and how to talk about it with patrons?

In this one hour webinar we’ll talk about the appeal of street lit and what makes it so compelling to read; its growth and current popularity; and share useful, reliable collection development resources. And we hope to hear from you during the webinar – questions, ideas and tips welcome!

Presenter: Leigh K Mauer

Leigh K. Mauer joined the Kenton County Public Library as Readers' Advisory Librarian in 2008. In addition to an MLIS from Kent State, Leigh has an undergrad degree in theater arts and spent four years as a stage manager. While living in Portland, Oregon she worked as a bookseller at Powell's City of Books, one of the largest bookstores in the world, and gained much knowledge of both fiction and non-fiction. She loves being part of The Page-Turners book discussion group at the library, has close to 650 titles on her Goodreads "to-read" shelf, appreciates the awesomeness of her coworkers, and feels very secure when surrounded by books.
