Humanitarian workers across the world need accurate maps to do their jobs. What towns did these refugees come from? What buildings were here before the storm hit? How can we get truck-loads of aid to the people that need it?

The Humanitarian OpenStreetmap Team (HOT) makes it possible for people to create maps for far-away places by combining satellite imagery with simple mapping tools that run in a web browser.

HOT works with humanitarian organizations to identify projects, specific areas in need of mapping, and adds them to the HOT Tasking Manager. Projects are subdivided into small sections, called tasks, that individuals can tackle. Open a task, and all the changes you make are saved for everyone to see and use. Every little contribution counts!

In this Level-Up Lab, you'll learn how to use the mapping tools and contribute to a HOT mapping project. Working with Nathan, who's logged hours of mapping and has talked to other mappers and mapping instructors, you'll leave this 2-hour session with the skills to continue mapping on your own. Hopefully, you'll feel ready to teach others to map, too.

This Lab is designed for beginners who have never mapped before. Let's dive in together and learn how to help humanitarian projects across the world!
