Add STEM to Everyday Storytimes

Traditional storytimes are a great setting to introduce STEM to young learners. Saroj will teach you how to connect science and math concepts to books you’re already using—books loved by the kids at your library.

Some of this activity has you teaching STEM concepts, but Saroj will also show you how to ask questions that get children thinking in a STEM mindset.

Your homework is to bring a written storytime plan and the books you use (or if you do not do storytimes, please bring 2 books that preschoolers would enjoy). Saroj will provide the rest!

Saroj Ghoting worked on the team that developed Every Child Ready to Read 1 and was instrumental in implementing the initiative at a public library pilot site. She has co-authored several books on early literacy, published by the American Library Association, and she regularly speaks on early literacy topics at library- and teacher-related conferences.
