Quick and easy CE from SWON, created for and by you!

SWON is best known for offering low-cost and effective training for library staff. You may have noticed this year we have started to produce our own webinars every month! Just like with our PCI offerings, these SWON Webinars are free for supporting members and low-cost for geographic and out-of-state members.

In our webinars, we have covered a range of topics; from how to get better results from your social media presence, all the way to implementing VR in your library. For this fall, we have several webinars lined up that may spark your interest!

  • Tuesday, October 3rd @ 11 AM, come learn how you can make your library the job seeker's best friend in this webinar that will give us practical tips. Donald Crews will be showing us how to best serve those who are looking for employment or who are in between jobs.
  • Tuesday, October 17th @ 2 PM, explore how to take your programs to your local park with Dave Anderson, branch manager of Campbell County Public Library. Hear about the costs, staffing considerations, location needs and more.
  • Tuesday, November 14th @ 11 AM, join us as we learn from Mike Fair, Librarian at the St. Bernard branch of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, about strategies for making patrons feel comfortable in the library, clarifying patron requests and matching reference materials to patrons’ reading levels.

For those of you who prefer in-person training, look no further than our Level-Up Labs! When possible, we offer Level-Up Labs either at the SWON Offices or at a library near you. Our upcoming lab on Tuesday, September 19th features Pam Baker of Kenton County Public Library. She will be showing us her 40 favorite apps for work and for fun! Register soon as space is limited.

Do you have any skills or programs you would like to share with the region? Our offerings are created for and by YOU, whenever possible, so we can get you information from on-the-ground presenters who know our area's unique needs.

Contact SWON today to schedule a webinar or Level-Up Lab on any topic you'd like to share. Show off your skills to the world! We are flexible in our scheduling, and we love to help librarians and staff from across the region connect with one another.

Right now SWON is also looking for individuals with teen expertise to present in a series of webinars in December for the Collaborative Summer Reading 2018 theme of "Libraries rock!" If you have any fun, music-centered programs or services, please contact us with your proposal and the dates in December that work for you. Send your proposals to: info@swonlibraries.org with the title "Teen Summer Reading Proposal."

We hope to see you at one of our events, whether as an attendee or a presenter, soon!

PCI Webinar - Jack of All Trades: Public Service Librarians in Small Library Systems

As library budgets tighten year after year libraries are forced to be creative with how to manage their daily activities as well as their technology instruction, collection development process, and programming efforts. In this session, we will discuss how Public Services Librarians manage the main and branch libraries while also providing valuable services to their patrons through reference, technology assistance, outreach, collection development and programming.

And check out Graphic Design on a Dime on September 14th, too! In this program, we’ll show you how to utilize web resources to fulfill your design dreams. We’ll introduce you to the website Canva to make slideshows, flyers, and social media posts at little to no cost to your organization. We’ll also discuss how to use Creative Commons and other free image databases to avoid issues of copyright infringement.
