Early Bird Discounts for Children's Literature Events

Does your job involve reading to or otherwise selecting books for children? Coming up in the next few months, SWON is hosting its twenty-third annual Picture Book Read-In and will also participate in OKI (Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana Children's Literature Conference) in November. For each of these events, there are early bird specials!

Our Picture Book Read-In is a program for Collection Development staff, Children's Librarians, Teachers, Childcare Workers, and anyone else who selects and/or reads books for children. We provide thousands of recent titles (usually from the last two years) loaned to us for this event from six local public library systems. Each attendee receives a guide listing all of the books. The day includes time for selecting and binge-reading picture books, discussing possible story time options with your peers, and two presentations. If you register by July 13th, you will receive $5 off your ticket!

In November, OKI's Yearly Children's Literature Conference will focus on the theme "#ReadLocal - Discovering Treasures in Your Own Backyard" and will feature the authors & illustrators Adam Watkins of Ohio, Heather Henson of Kentucky, and April Pulley Sayre of Indiana. Please see swon.li/oki2018 for more information. Register before October 13th and get $10 off!

PCI Webinar - Helping Your Patrons with Identity Theft

Do you have patrons that need help with identity theft? A recent report from Equifax stated that someone’s identity is now stolen every 2 seconds!

In this informative program learn more about IdentityTheft.gov, the federal government’s free, one-stop resource to help people fix problems caused by identity theft. It’s now easier for victims of identity theft to report it and recover from it. The site allows patrons to get a personal recovery plan that walks them through each step; update their personal plan and track their progress; and print pre-filled letters & forms to send to credit bureaus, businesses, and debt collectors

Find out what to steps your patrons can take if they suspect identity theft (whether it’s related to credit accounts, tax returns, minor children, or medical records) and how to spot imposter scams, a prevalent and evolving fraud that can lead to identity theft.

Can't attend on the date and time listed? Anyone who registers in advance for PCI Webinars will receive an archived copy of the presentation for later viewing. SWON provides PCI Webinars to our Supporting Members for free (and to Geographic Members and everyone else at a reduced price), so there's no reason not to register today!

Continuing Education Credits for Three States with SWON

Thanks to the Indiana State Library, SWON's webinars and live events all provide LEU (Indiana's version of a CEU) to any Indiana librarian or staff who attends. In Ohio, OLC also blanket approves all CE offered by SWON and KDLA in Kentucky accepts most of our CE credits as well. SWON provides reliable, quality continuing education credits to libraries of all types throughout the Indiana-Ohio-Kentucky tri-state area. Our event calendar includes free and valuable continuing education resources from outside institutions, making SWON's calendar a one-stop shop for your continuing education needs, whether they be in person or online.
