On a recent visit to the Art Institute of Cincinnati, College of Design, Donna Wakefield (Librarian) and I toured a classroom I hadn’t seen before. In it were examples of packaging for real or imagined products. It was fascinating to see the packaging in stages, how they develop an idea using paper/cardboard and then, perhaps evolve to other materials as their ideas progressed. Some finished ideas will still be in paper although it may be of the card stock variety as in the image above. Sometimes the packaging involves designing the product container itself! And yes, I learn something new every time I go to the College of Design.

You can earn an Associate’s Degree of Applied Science in Graphic Design or a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design. You’ll learn the fundamentals as well as advanced techniques, all with a flexible schedule. If you’re a teacher you can take classes here and earn CEU’s. Drawing, animation, identity, typography, it’s all here.

I know what great design has done for our marketing materials. Do you feel the same way about yours?
